ABOUT TSEYCUM TOURS
First Nation Eco-Tourism Adventure

Tseycum Canoe Tours is owned and operated by the Tseycum First Nation, one of the many Coast Salish bands in the Vancouver Island and Gulf Island areas. Western archeologists believe that the First Nations of the North West Coast have occupied this region as of c.9000BC. The various bands agree that they have been living in this region, interacting with their environment, from time immemorial.

Tseycum First Nation are a proud people who know the benefits of carrying on their traditions and sharing them with others. They recognized their dependence on the environment and as such, many aspects of their lives and culture were and still are tied to it.

We would like to invite you to take part in an experience which you will never forget. At Tseycum Tours we value education and traditional spirituality and it is our desire to pass these on to our guests as they embark on a memorable journey back in time. Learn about potlatches, shell middens and ancient tribal sites. Discover the beauty of the area which can only be seen from the ocean waters. Through the eyes of our First Nation staff, you will see natural wildlife, local flower and fauna and hear legends and song that will have you leaving with a feeling of peace and belonging to the area.

Gulf Islands and Surrounding Area

Rich in Coast Salish history and spectacular scenery, the Gulf Islands are a group of small islands located just off the coast of Southern Vancouver Island, BC. Coast Salish First Nations lived a semi-nomadic existence off the bounty provided by the sea and lands of this area. More and more you'll hear the Gulf Islands region referred to as "the Salish Sea," in recognition of its original inhabitants.

Captain Vancouver claimed the islands for the British Crown, and referred to them as being located in a "gulf." Though it is pretty apparent to anyone looking at a map of the area today that the Gulf Islands are not in a gulf but the name stuck.

Make Tseycum Canoe Tours your gateway to the splendors of this beautiful area and all its mysteries.
